Can you elaborate? What is between them?

There is a big N-channel MOSFET.

i would assume that is there, so the 5v on the gpio can turn off at shutdown, like with the pi400

but then how will things behave when you backfeed it from the 5v pin of the gpio header....
it clearly works, since the poe hat exists, but how?
