General discussion • Re: Official Power Supply Issues?

Thanks for all of the replies, but I don't want to add a smart switch, AC switch, etc. to power on my Pi5 on and off: I was hoping to add an inexpensive, inline, USB switch beside the Pi 5 and power it off after shutdown. This is what I've always done in the past with Pi 3's, and Pi 4's and it has worked just fine.

FWIW, I also attached the "official" supply to my USB C power analyser, and it wouldn't power up, either.

In the past, this has been the simplest, most convenient and least expensive solution for me. It's never been a problem with various, generic USB C power supplies and my three Pi 4s.

Having little, USB C PD experience, may I assume that unlike a normal (old school) USB power supply, there's intelligence in the PD power supply that puts the brick into sleep or low power mode until a signal from the Pi triggers the power supply to power up?
