Thanks for the reply. At first I thought it was a power issue as well. However, the Pi works just fine with a single external 1tb hdd connected, but once I connect one of the 2.5'' drives, it stops working even if that's the only drive connected. These hdds have a power consumption of 0.45A at 5V, but I'm unsure about the consumption of the external one. However, I don't think the difference in power consumption between one being plugged in alone and one of the problems causing ones plugged in alone is big enough to cause the pi to fail, which is why I'm not sure if a lack of power delivered by the pi is the reason for its failure.Even with the 27W power supply, 3 spinning rust drives is quite a significant load.
Picking a random 2TB Seagate drive - datasheet
Startup current 1A.
IIRC The Pi is only designed to supply 1.2A total at the USB ports.
Having 3 attached is likely to be hitting the current limits during boot, so random things will happen.
Use a powered USB3 hub if you want to connect that amount of spinning rust.
Also, I forgot to mention that the Pi itself worked just fine with all 3 disks connected for the very first time. There was a problem with me not being able to access one of the two hdd's as it kept saying "An Operation Is Already Pending" though.
