I cannot reproduce the issue. Please make sure that you don't use quotes or double quotes when you define API key in the configuration file, make sure that you correctly copy/paste the key.
BTW, I would recommend to increase the weather.update.period property as a weather doesn't change that often. Also that web service (OpenWeather) has a limit 1000 free API calls per day. With 60 sec update period you will exceed that limit in less than one day assuming that your screensaver is always running. When you exceed that number your requests will be blocked by that web site.
