It's also easy to implement essentially the same tests that are baked into Windows in Python (or your preferred language) on a Pi. For example, I use the older Windows DNS lookup based test, implemented in Python on a Pi, to make sure the resolver on my router hasn't stalled again, and restart it if it has.
