An analysis that finds a flaw or demonstrates the unlikeness of certain types of attack vectors might be a good project for a master's thesis. If an actual flaw were found, that could make a nice publication towards the goal of a doctoral degree. Depending on the depth I suspect more would be needed for an actual degree.
Unfortunately, I'm not qualified to supervise a doctoral student in computer security. Moreover, the chilling effects certain laws have had on cryptographic research make it an unattractive field to enter. However, there may be others here that would be interested. I'll keep it in mind.
