General discussion • Pi OS file manager difficulties compared to Nemo

I use Nemo on an Intel laptop and started moving terabytes from one disk to another. Five hours. :( I could use my Pi 5! :D

Using the file manager in the Raspberry Pi OS is difficult. For some reason, when I click around the screen, it keeps popping up a rename option. That does not happen in Nemo. Something it too sensitive to mouse movements or whatever.

I need to move the remainder of the files as I let the move run for a while on the notebook. There are duplicate directories. Nemo lets you "merge" directories. The Pi FM asks if you want to "overwrite" the existing directory. That sounds destructive. I opted for clicking down to the directory, there are many levels, and moving the unmoved files.

Nemo has a "paste into folder" which is missing in the Pi FM. Nemo also lets you click on an empty spot between columns to deselect anything selected in the open directory. I could not deselect the selection in the open directory as the list of directories and files filled the screen. Next time I will experiment with backing out of the directory then reentering to remove any selection.

There is a generic "paste". Does paste put the files into the open directory or a directory selected in the open directory? I moved the cursor down to a file then used paste. That worked to put the moved directories and files into the open directory instead of anything selected in the open directory.

The problem might only be the labeling of options. I prefer the explicit options in Nemo to the generic options in the Pi OS file manager. Nemo is designed for Cinnamon. It is in the Pi software manager so I might test it.
