All working now! Exactly two commands need to be entered manually after the system first boots. They are both in the initramfs, and the second one is 'exit'
Still need to do more testing and figure out what happens or needs to happen (if anything) to initramfs when the kernel is updated.
Once completed, sdm on github will be updated to include this.

The info at the link I posted was correct except for the usual /boot is now /boot/firmware and a couple of other minor issues. Now that I've learned about initramfs, I am very interested in hearing what things it describes that you feel are unnecessary.Well that approach is very similar to mine, so it won't work . Besides it complicates way to much the setup, making lots of unnecessary steps.
