I use the RPi debug probe from a Linux PC to the Pico hoping any electrical issues will take out the probe first. Binaries are uploaded via SWD debug port. To power the Pico I use the same model wall adapter as for the Raspberry Pi 4B.
I also have a pie 4B but I haven't started using it yet but I'm going to give it a try for the SDK extension. Anyway you can develop and cross-compile on the faster machine then just move (scp or rsync) the. elf or. uf2 files over to the Raspberry Pi for flashing if you feel that is safer.
