You are correct. I'll have to wait a while to check if adding rquint to the group has the desired effect (I've got something running I don't want to interupt). It's interesting that the default groups for a user are different for the two OSes. For RaspiOS with the default user pi they are
pi: pi admin dialout cdrom sudo audio video plugdev games users input render netdev spi i2c gpio lpadmin
and for Ubuntu with an initial user (rquint) created on first start they're
rquint : rquint adm cdrom sudo dip video plugdev users lpadmin sambashare
I also wonder if adding rquint to the admin group might also work (I know it's no longer automatically created in recent versions of Ubuntu; I don't know if it's inherited in RaspiOS from Debian.)
