Thanks for teh reply but holy poopski that's a lot of work to make the MIPI port work for a display. The company is a chinese manufacturer and currently saying I just need the Pi root files.
You have all the source files for the Pi.
HDMI has a standardised mechanism to configure the source. DSI doesn't (far from it), therefore it requires some effort. The same is true for SPI or DPI displays.
I've already got the HDMI driver board but for packing purposes I would like to try and use the MIPI port so I don't have an extra board to squeeze in.

However, in saying that the display requires 2amps via USB C to power the display board and display so begs the question how many amps the Pi MIPI port can kick out.
The FFC cable has a 3.3V supply only. Whilst I can't recall the exact spec, I'd say you're looking at around 200mA max. You'll have to look at providing your 5V indirectly (eg a Y-lead from the supply, although you're likely to need to keep the USB-PD for the Pi5 if you want full current from the USB ports).
