After this sort of thing + several CM4 failures involving lots of memory and files losses, for different reasons, I concluded it was all down to QC issues.
The makers always blamed on the user..
I no longer consider CM4 as a reliable system for anything long term - just pot luck really. Image may be NSFW.

The failures are starting to cost quite a bit of cash now, quite apart from file losses.
I have a (small) pile of bricked CM4s now, 2 of them with no obvious reason why they should have died.
