Troubleshooting • XRDP, Browsers and VLC - Is there a solution for the way the GPU affects these apps?

Aside from having issues to work with my Pi4b as it doesn't like my normal HDMI monitor when I used it. I primarily use remote desktop software like MSTSC.exe under windows to remote into the pi with XRDP installed on the pi to deliver that functionality. Mainly because I want to be able to use the Pi that way the majority of the time so no Putty and serial links.

As other have reported elsewhere, as soon as the user 'Pi' logs in and uses a browser the package will open but the display is garbage. The only solution I have is to edit the shortcut that starts the browser by adding a '--gpu' to the command line in the short cut. There is another alternative and that is to create a new user and login under that username.

Has anybody identified what it is exactly that is causing the 'Pi' user that is default setup on the image, as I'd like to fix it so that the Pi user doesn't hit these problems as it also affects use of VLC which starts but cannot display anything useful and there is no equivalent of adding the
'--gpu' to the command line of VLC.

I am running 64 bit Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm).

Thank you.
