Yes. I dont drive anything direcly using GPIO.
I use BC337s.
I also have diodes across my relays.
My supply is 15V (or 12V lead acid).
I have a 7812 supplying 12V for the relays, each using 50mA (with a BC337 per relay), and a 1K resistor from GPIO to base (well within GPIO current capability).
The rest is driven by 5V from a 7805 which is fed by the 7812.
