I think if you use root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw init=/bin/bash all at the same time, you should be able to edit /etc/fstab immediately.
It is useful to have a USB µSDHC card reader; they are very inexpensive.
Also it might be advisable to set a good root password (sudo passwd root) on the original system before duplication, to avoid the locked emergency behavior.
Sometimes my brain just doesn't work :-(
I just got a USB Card interface from Amazon - it arrived this AM. I'll see if I can't copy my system to a µSD card.
I do have the system locked with a password - but I'm Not sure it is a Root password.
I'll try the sudo passwd root command so I don't have to type sudo all the time :-)
Just as an FYI: I'm setting up this Pironman 4 box for my 10 YO grandson. He's pretty sharp, but this set-up will make it easier for him to transition from Scratch to Python and Linux.
