General discussion • No communication through to router

I'm beginning to create a homelab as a newbie and I'd like to set it up as follows:

ISP Modem > Pi5 > Router

I will turn off Wifi on the ISP Modem and use the Wifi on the Router.

I have connected the ISP Modem to the Pi5 with an ethernet cable.

I have connected the Pi5 to the Router using a Comsol USB-to-ethernet adapter and ethernet cable but, alas, there is no communication to the Router.

Do I require a PoE HAT or something else? Is there a function in the Pi5 that I need to activate?

I'm just not sure. Please advise.
