Beginners • Re: 3D printing and Raspberry Pi

Hi, my laptop has broken just as I was looking at a 3d printer. I don't want to replace the laptop as I am more than happy with my Pi 4 and my tablet. At the moment I am fairly clueless about 3D printing but I'm starting to understand what I need to do. I would like to know if the whole process from design to the slicing and printing is possible on the Pi 4?

Thanks in advance...
I use OpenSCAD for design, which does work on the 64-bit Pi OS on a Pi 4. I also use Cura for slicing, which I haven't tried on a Pi 4, but the internet tells me it will work.

I currently do all my 3D design and slicing on a Windows laptop (bite me), then send the files to my printer via Octoprint on a Pi.

A long time ago Cura was integrated with Octoprint. I used to do a lot of OpenSCAD design on a Linux laptop, then send it to Octoprint on a Pi where it was sliced and printed. Now I design and slice locally, then send the result to Octoprint.

You don't need Octoprint. You can slice your model then save it to an SD card for printing.

If you're just starting to get into it then a lot of this won't make sense, but it will fall into place eventually. Good luck. It's a fun hobby.
