When the Pi 4 first came out it didn't connect to a Rosewill banded switch here that was working fine with some PCs. After discovering the same switch caused problems with an iMac I replaced the switch and haven't had a problem since.
Since you have a Pi 5 things might be different. Even so, if you have an old 100 MBit switch not doing anything I'd suggest placing it between the Pi and your present cable as an experiment to see if anything changes.
